Fabulous Rayna Gilman Workshops

This week I was lucky enough to spend 2 days in workshops with Rayna Gilman. I’ve admired her truly amazing quilts for a long time. Bits ‘n’ Pieces Quilt Guild brought her to St. Louis.

The first day was the Fearless Color Workshop. Rayna gave us each a packet with charm squares of Kona cotton. We had to pick the two pieces that we like the least and create an improvisational piece using those pieces and a couple of other colors of our choice. The piece above and to the right is my piece in progress.

The second day we made Cinderella quilts. Rayna had asked us to bring any ugly orphan blocks that we might have lying around home. We chopped up the ugly block, added fabrics, sewed, chopped, moved things around and ended up with a small art quilt. I started with the block on the left and ended up with the small quilt on the right.

Then I took a second block and the made a second small art quilt.rayna class block 2 I can’t tell you how much fun I had!  Rayna is a great teacher and I learned much. Transformation 2
